The
United States is investing in 6G technology and working together to ultimately
standardize it. In particular, Theodore Rapaport, founding director of NYU
Wireless, said that 6G technology will enable 3D virtual reality, true
telesurgery and metaverse.
In addition, the National Science
Foundation (NSF), as well as companies such as Microsoft and AT&T, are all
working hard on 6G, which has the potential to make it truly global ubiquitous.
The United States established a $3.5 billion joint investment plan with the
South Korean government at the 2021 Korea-U.S. summit while establishing a
communication cooperation system with its allies, and formed Next G. Alliance
with private companies to secure 6G standard technology.
Not only the United States but also the
whole world is currently focusing on 6G and metaverse. Metaverse is also the
keyword for MWC 2022, the world's largest mobile communication fair. At MWC
2022, you could see a variety of experience services and attractions, from
Qualcom's chipset for XR to build metaverse environment, a supercomputer for
Meta Platforms' (former Facebook) metaverse implementation, to SKT's metaverse
K-pop concert.
